ST. JOHN OF GOD CATHOLIC CHURCH DONATES TO DUAYAW NKWANTA CAMP PRISON

On Sunday, March 30, 2025, the faithful of St. John of God Catholic Church, Duayaw Nkwanta, gathered with hearts full of generosity and purpose. As part of the Jubilee Year of Hope celebration and the month of March designated for prisoners by the diocese, they embarked on a mission of love and solidarity, bringing donations to the Duayaw Nkwanta Camp Prison.
Leading the delegation was Rev. Fr. Daniel Afum, the parish priest, assisted by Rev. Fr. Gregory Asomaning Agyemang and Rev. Fr. Francis Kusi Ababio. Also present was the Church President, Mr. Augustine Effah Apraku, along with other church leaders and parishioners.
The church presented essential supplies, including food items, toiletries, and medical materials, to support the welfare of the inmates. In addition to these items, they also donated a cash amount of over Ten Thousand Ghana Cedis to further aid the well-being of the prisoners. The atmosphere was filled with gratitude and emotion as hymns of hope echoed through the prison walls.
Receiving the donations, the chaplain of the camp, Supt. Isaac Kumah, alongside Supt. John Mary Angkyire and ASP Sebastian Dery and on behalf of all other officers, expressed deep appreciation on behalf of the Ghana Prisons Service. He further appealed to individuals, organizations, and churches to support the prison, saying, "The needs of these inmates are great, and continuous support will help give them a sense of dignity and hope for a better future."
In a brief exhortation, Rev. Fr. Daniel Afum encouraged the inmates not to lose faith, emphasizing that the Jubilee Year of Hope was a call to renewal, forgiveness, and a brighter future. “No matter your past, God’s mercy is greater. This is a time for new beginnings—hold on to faith, for hope never disappoints,” he urged. He further appealed to the prison officers to be merciful and kind in their dealings with the inmates.
The visit concluded with prayers, leaving behind smiles, renewed spirits, and a strengthened bond between the church and the prison community.
As the delegation departed, the inmates waved in gratitude, their hearts touched by the kindness extended to them. It was a day that proved that even in confinement, the light of hope could shine through.
