The celebration began with a parade inspection at the school’s celebration grounds, mounted by the OLA SHS cadet corps. The parade was inspected by the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Goaso, Most Rev. Peter K. Atuahene, alongside Sr. Antoinette Fatia Abiwu, in a gesture of honour and deep respect for her dedicated service to the Church and society.
After the parade inspection, the Thanksgiving Mass was solemnly celebrated by Bishop Atuahene, with several priests, religious sisters, and dignitaries present. The Mass attracted a large congregation made up of traditional leaders, alumni, staff and students of OLA SHS, family members, and well-wishers from across the diocese and beyond.
In his homily, Bishop Atuahene praised Sr. Antoinette’s unwavering faith, humility, and commitment to religious life. He highlighted her important role on the Diocesan Vocation Team, where she mentored and inspired numerous young people in discerning their vocation.
The ceremony was enriched with cultural performances, soul-stirring hymns, tributes, and the presentation of symbolic gifts. Many shared glowing testimonies about Sr. Antoinette’s leadership, motherly care, and her enduring impact on students, staff, and fellow religious.
In her response, Sr. Antoinette expressed deep gratitude to God, the Bishop, her congregation, the OLA SHS community, and all who supported her mission over the years. She encouraged the youth, especially girls, to live purposefully, remain disciplined, and deepen their relationship with God.
The day ended with a lively reception, filled with joy, reunions, and heartfelt appreciation for a life lived in selfless service to God and humanity.
Indeed, Friday, 11th April 2025, will be remembered as a graceful and joyful send-off for a woman whose legacy continues to inspire generations within and beyond the Diocese of Goaso.
