Bechem, Ahafo Region — 26th July 2025
More than 1,300 children under the age of 14 from across the Catholic Diocese of Goaso converged in faith, joy, and celebration at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bechem, on Saturday, 26th July 2025 for the grand Jubilee Children’s Celebration. The event formed a significant part of the Diocese’s Golden Jubilee Year and was spearheaded by the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) of Goaso Diocese, under the leadership of Rev. Fr. Luke Patrick Effah Gyau, PMS Director, and Sr. Magdalene Kwofie, the Diocesan PMS Children's Coordinator.
Held under the theme: “Pilgrims of Hope: Empowering Children to Be Missionaries”, the celebration gathered children from all parishes, outstations, and mission areas to participate in a faith-filled gathering that not only gave them a sense of belonging but also empowered them to grow as young missionaries in the Church.
The highlight of the day was a solemn Holy Mass presided over by the Bishop of Goaso, Most Rev. Peter Kwaku Atuahene. The children, full of excitement and dressed in colorful Jubilee attire, welcomed the Bishop joyfully with songs and waving flags.
In his homily, the Bishop delivered a heartwarming and encouraging message to the children. He reminded them that they are precious in the eyes of Jesus and important members of the Church, regardless of their age. He exhorted them to always stay close to Jesus through prayer, obedience, and acts of kindness.
Most notably, the Bishop encouraged the children to cultivate the spirit of giving, stressing that generosity is not about how much one has, but how willing one is to share. “You may be young, but your small hands can give big love,” he said. “Learn to help, share, and support others — this is what Jesus wants from His little ones.”
He also tasked the children to take their faith and academic studies seriously, noting that a good Catholic child is one who grows both spiritually and intellectually. “Study hard and pray well,” the Bishop told them. “Your future depends on it, and the Church is counting on you.”
After the Mass, the celebration continued with a vibrant talent show, where groups of children showcased their creative gifts through gospel music, dance, poetry, drama, and recitals. The performances reflected the children’s understanding of the Jubilee theme and their joy in being part of the Church.
To crown the day, all the children were joyfully fed with delicious meals and drinks — a gesture that added warmth and hospitality to the entire celebration. The feeding was done efficiently with the support of volunteers and coordinators, ensuring that no child was left out.
The event was well coordinated by Rev. Fr. Luke Patrick Effah Gyau and Sr. Magdalene Kwofie, with the support of parish coordinators, catechists, and volunteers.
The atmosphere was filled with laughter, singing, prayer, and play — a true celebration of the life and potential of the young Church. In his closing words, Fr. Luke expressed gratitude for the participation and support, stating: “This day proves that children are not just the future of the Church — they are the now. May they go back home as little missionaries, full of love, prayer, and purpose.”
As the Diocese continues its Jubilee journey, the Jubilee Children’s Celebration at Bechem stands out as a shining witness to the Church’s commitment to nurture and accompany her youngest members in faith and mission.
