The 27th Diocesan Laity Plenary Assembly was held from Friday, 20th to Sunday, 22nd February at the Diocesan Pastoral and Social Centre, Goaso. The three-day gathering brought together representatives of the lay faithful from across the Diocese for prayer, reflection, dialogue, and planning.
The Assembly was held under the theme: “A Synodal Church at the Service of Justice and Peace in Ghana.” In the spirit of synodality, participants reflected on their shared responsibility to build a Church that listens, walks together, and actively promotes justice, peace, and reconciliation in society. Emphasis was placed on strengthening lay leadership, deepening formation, and fostering unity among parish and deanery lay councils.
The Chairman for the occasion was Mr. Rexford Amankwaah. Present at the Assembly were the Vicar General, Monsignor Matthew Addai, Very Rev. Fr. Nicholas Afriyie, Director of GoDiDo (Goaso Diocesan Development Office), the Chancellor, Fr. Theophilus Akyeampong Pepra, and many other dignitaries who graced the event and offered their support and encouragement.
A key highlight of the Assembly was the appointment and formal introduction of the new Diocesan Laity Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Luke Patrick Effah Gyau. Members warmly welcomed him and pledged their readiness to work closely with him in advancing the mission of the Church.
The plenary also revisited the core duties of the Laity Council, including promoting active lay participation in the life and mission of the Church; coordinating lay associations and apostolates; fostering unity within the Diocese; and championing initiatives that uphold justice and peace in Ghana.
The Assembly concluded with renewed commitment among the lay faithful to actively contribute to the Church’s synodal journey and to serve as agents of justice and peace in their communities.
