KENYASI DEANERY DEMONSTRATES CHRISTIAN CHARITY TO PRISONS

On Wednesday, March 26, 2025, the Kenyasi Deanery lived out the Gospel message in a tangible way through the donation of a 10,000-litre water tank to Kenyasi Prisons. The meaningful ceremony brought together prison officials, Catholic clergy, and parishioners in an inspiring show of community support.

The morning's events began with DSP Bernice Kyei welcoming the delegation and expressing the prison administration's appreciation. Following the Jubilee Prayer, Rev. Fr. Matthew Kumi, Dean of Kenyasi Deanery, connected the donation to Christ's call in Matthew 25:36 to visit those in prison. Fr. Kumi emphasized that this act of charity was a demonstration of the Church’s commitment to the welfare of the prisoners in this jubilee year. "This 27th day of March becomes significant not just as a date on the calendar," Fr. Kumi noted, "but as a moment when we put our faith into concrete action."

The Commander of the Kenyasi Prisons, CSP Elvis Ahadzi, graciously received the water tank on behalf of the prison. He expressed profound gratitude to the Deanery for the timely support, noting that such donations are essential in improving the living conditions of inmates. CSP Ahadzi further appealed for continued assistance from the Church and other organizations to help address the ongoing needs of the prison facility.

The late morning ceremony concluded with a tour of the prison facilities, where Deanery representatives saw firsthand the challenges faced by the correctional center.

This act of Christian charity during the Lenten season serves as a powerful reminder of the Church's social mission and its call to serve society's most vulnerable members. The Kenyasi Deanery has set an example of faith in action that will make a lasting difference in the lives of both prisoners and staff at the facility.
