GOASO DIOCESE GETS FOUR NEW PRIESTS

Most Rev. Peter Kwaku Atuahene, Catholic Bishop of Goaso has ordained four deacons to the priesthood at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Tanoso, Yamfo Parish.  

Three of the newly ordained – Rev. Anthony Kwabena Appiah Yeboah, from Tanoso; Rev. Luke Patrick Effah Gyau from Susuanso; and Rev. Sylvester Baffour Awuah, from Susuanso – all belong to St. Anthony’s Parish, Yamfo. These three deacons were the pioneers of St. Gregory the Great Provincial Seminary at Parkoso where they had their spirituality, Philosophical and Theological Studies. The fourth deacon, Rev. Dominic Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, however, had his spirituality and Philosophy studies at St. Paul’s Catholic Seminary, Sowutuom, Accra, and then went to St. Peter’s Regional Seminary, Pedu, Cape Coast where he studied Theology.

SOD CUTTING CEREMONY MARKS THE WORK FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF ST. POPE JOHN PAUL II SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL AND MINOR SEMINARY AT BECHEM

Friday 24th February, 2017 marked the sod cutting ceremony of a long desired dream of Most Rev. Peter Kwaku Atuahene, Chief Shepherd of a predominantly rural Diocese of Goaso, to help improve the living standards of the people through holistic and quality education. According to the Bishop, the school would provide an exceptional good learning environment for students, in the vicinity and beyond, for many years to come.

SUPPORT BISHOP ATUAHENE TO ESTABLISH SEMINARY/BOYS SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL AT BECHEM

Most Rev. Peter Kwaku Atuahene, Catholic Bishop of Goaso has appealed to Parishes, Institutions, Societies, Stakeholders and Individuals in the Diocese and beyond and the general public to assist him construct St. John Paul II Seminary & Senior High School (SHS) at Bechem.

Bishop Atuahene noted that it had become imperative because even though there were a number of mixed and Girls SHS in the Diocese, it lacked a Boys School; hence the need to establish a male SHS to cater for the educational needs of boys in the Diocese and its catchment areas.

BISHOP ATUAHENE ORDAINS PRIEST FOR GOASO DIOCESE

Most Rev. Peter Kwaku Atuahene, Catholic Bishop of Goaso has ordained one priest for the Diocese at the St. Anthony of Padua Cathedral, Goaso. The newly ordained priest, Rev. Fr. Francis Ayana, is a parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Cathedral parish, Goaso. Rev. Fr.  Ayana hails from Bongo in the Upper East Region of Ghana, yet he was born and bred at Goaso. He had his Primary, Junior and Senior High education, all at Goaso, and then proceeded to St. James Minor Seminary for his Post SHS studies at Abesim in Sunyani.

He further pursued his Philosophical and Theological studies at St. Paul’s Catholic Seminary, Sowutuom, Accra and St. Peter’s Regional Seminary, Pedu, Cape Coast, respectively. He graduated with a BA in Sociology and the Study of Religions from the University of Ghana, Legon in 2013. Father Ayana was ordained a deacon on the 19th of December, 2015 and priest on 9th July 2016 and celebrated his First Thanksgiving Mass in the Cathedral.

GOASO DIOCESAN CWA CELEBRATES ANNUAL FEAST OF THE HOLY FAMILY

The Goaso Diocesan Catholic Women Association (CWA) celebrated their Annual Feast of the Holy Family in a grand durbar at Kunsu under the theme: “The Responsibilities of Catholic Women towards the Care and Protection of Creation (cf. Laudato Si)” The four days programme was attended by over 2,000 Catholics and Non-Catholics. The Women were taken through a series of Talks on the theme and also had the opportunity to go for confession. 

BISHOP ATUAHENE ORDAINS DEACON FOR GOASO DIOCESE

Most Rev. Peter Kwaku Atuahene, Catholic Bishop of Goaso, on the 19th of December, 2016, ordained one deacon for the Diocese at the St. Anthony of Padua Cathedra, Goaso. The newly ordained deacon, Rev. Francis Ayana, is a parishioner of  St. Anthony of Padua Cathedral parish, Goaso. Rev. Ayana had his Senior High School education at Ahafoman Senior High School at Goaso, from where he proceeded to St. James Minor Seminary for his Post SHS studies at Abesim in Sunyani. He further pursued his Philosophical and Theological studies at St. Paul’s Catholic Seminary, Sowutuom, Accra and St. Peter’s Regional Seminary, Pedu, Cape Coast, respectively. Currently, he is in the final year of his theological formation at St. Peters’ Regional Seminary, Pedu, Cape Coast.

GOASO DIOCESE LAUNCHES THE YEAR OF MERCY

His Lordship Most Rev. Peter Atuahene, Catholic Bishop of Goaso, launched the Year of Mercy in a colourful celebration with Priests and Religious working in the Diocese, Lay Leaders of the Parishes and Societies, at St. Anthony Cathedral, Goaso. During the ceremony, Francis Ayana, a seminarian, was ordained a deacon and also in attendance were the relatives and friends of the ordinandi.

DOUBLE BLESSING!!

It is very rare for someone to celebrate both silver and golden jubilee anniversaries together in a life time. As for Sr. Dinah it was a milestone in history of her life to celebrate both her silver jubilee in religious vows and her golden birthday. Indeed it was worth celebrating and thanking God for the years chalked in her life. As the whole church observed the Year of consecrated life in 2015, it was so special for Sr. Dinah Ofosu, SSpS to celebrate the goodness and the blessings of the Lord who had called her in an exceptional manner. 

BISHOP ATUAHENE COMMISSIONS MECHANIZED BOREHOLE AT KASAPIN

His Lordship, Most Rev. Peter Atuahene has commissioned mechanised borehole at Kasapin in the Asunafo North District on 11th December 2015. He thanked the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Francis Addae Poku for making the proposal and the donors, ‘Grove for Ghana’ in St. Hugh Catholic Church, Miami, U.S.A. who sponsored the project.

The Bishop appealed to the stakeholders to ensure proper maintenance of the project and pleaded with the District Assembly to do the expansion work. According to him wild animals in the forests are diminishing, the forest is gradually being destroyed, while water bodies are being polluted.

Dantano Health Centre and Community Receive Safe Drinking Water

Most Rev. Peter Atuahene, Catholic Bishop of Goaso, has stated that in addition to his spiritual responsibilities, he is committed to providing safe and clean drinking water throughout his diocese especially in communities where sources of drinking water have been polluted. He said this during his recent commissioning of Expansion Work of Solar Powered Mechanised Borehole at Dantano in Asunafo South District to serve the Health Centre and the community.

TWO PRIESTS CELEBRATE ANNIVERSARY IN GOASO DIOCESE

Very Reverend Fathers Stephen Dabanka (right) and Dr Augustine Owusu Addo (left)  celebrated the Silver Jubilee to the priesthood on 24th October 2015 at St. Anthony Cathedral, Goaso. Both priests were ordained into the Catholic Priesthood in Sunyani on 21st July 1990.

In attendance were some classmates and dignitaries like Most Rev Peter Atuahene, Catholic Bishop of Goaso, Most Rev Dominic Nyarko Yeboah, the Catholic Bishop of Techiman, Very Rev. Fr. Nicholas Afriyie, Secretary General, National Catholic Secretariat, Nana  Ansah Adu Baah, the Omanhene of Yamfo Traditional Area, Nana Afuah Sarpong, Akwaboahemaa – Kumasi, Mrs Florence Opoku Anokye based in London, U.K, the Acting Vice Chancellor and the Staff of the Catholic University College of Ghana, Fiapre, Priests and Religious from several Dioceses.

BISHOP ATUAHENE COMMISSIONS MECHANIZED BOREHOLE AT WAMAHINSO

His Lordship, Most Rev. Peter K. Atuahene, commissioned a Mechanised Water Borehole on September 11, 2015, at Wamahinso in the Brong Ahafo Region at a grand and colourful durbar. The project was sponsored by ‘Grove for Ghana’ in St. Hugh Catholic Church, Miami, U.S.A. The project consists of Borehole, one five-thousand-litre Poly tank and a Submersible Pump.

The Bishop, in his speech, thanked the donors and explained that indiscriminate human activities had polluted rivers and water bodies making them unsafe to drink and use. He said that the project had met the particular need of the community by providing safe and clean water for drinking and domestic purposes. He entreated the people to cooperate with the Management Board, yet to be set up, to ensure successful maintenance of the project. Mr Samuel Owusu Ansah, the Assembly man, launched an appeal for funds to raise seed money for the running of the Water Project.

CWA YOUTH CELEBRATE ANNIVERSARY

The Youth Wing of the Catholic Women Association (CWA) of Goaso Diocese recently celebrated her fourth Anniversary with a series of activities at the St. Peter’s Parish at Kenyasi in the Brong Ahafo Region. 

The three-day celebration themed “The Value of Marriage and Family: The Pastoral Challenges of the Family in the context of the New Evangelization” brought together members from nine Parishes in the Diocese. 

Most Rev. Peter Atuahene, Bishop of Goaso and Special Guest of Honour at the opening ceremony entreated the CWA youth to be focused and well grounded in the Catholic faith because the future of the Catholic Women Association (CWA) depends on them, advising them to brace themselves to take up the mantle of leadership in the near future. 

THANKSGIVING MASS FOR RVM SISTERS

A colourful thanksgiving Eucharistic celebration was held at the St. Anthony of Padua Cathedral at Goaso for four Sisters of the Religious of the Virgin Mary, (RVM) who professed their Perpetual Vows  in the Philippines. 

They are Rev. Srs. Ma. Lydia Yaa Sarpong, Ma. Cynthia Ameyka, Mary Magdalene Sampson Kwofie, and Ma. Lydia Baiden. 

The Mass which was presided over by the Most Rev. Peter Kwaku Atuahene, the Bishop of Goaso was attended by many RVM Sisters, including their District Superior, Sr. Teresita Francia, RVM, family members, friends, relatives and well wishers of the four Sisters. 

BISHOP ATUAHENE CONFIRMS TWENTY FOUR CATHOLICS

Most Rev. Peter Kwaku Atuahene, Bishop of Goaso Diocese recently Confirmed 24 Catholics at the St. Anthony of Padua Cathedral at Goaso.

The Mass was concelebrated by Rev. Msgr. Anthony Boahen Kyereme, Cathedral Administrator, and Rev. Frs. Clement Badu Kyeremeh and Elisha Manu, Assistants to the Administrator. 

Bishop Atuahene in a homily urged Christians to draw inspiration from the Holy Spirit to empower them to lead good Christian lives adding that having received the Holy Spirit through the Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation; they were expected to bear fruits in their lives.
